Did chain link get more expensive in 2026?
Yes. Chain link is steel, and Section 232 tariffs reached 50 percent on imported steel and aluminum in 2026, with steel mill products up roughly 20 percent year over year. Softwood lumber carries a much lower 10 percent tariff, so wood has been the more price-stable material this year.
Galvanized or vinyl-coated — which should I choose?
Galvanized is the standard and costs less. Vinyl-coated adds a polymer layer over the galvanized wire, comes in black, green or brown, and disappears visually against a treeline far better than bright galvanized does. Black vinyl-coated is the usual pick when appearance matters.
What gauge chain link do I need?
