Corryton sits in northeast Knox County, where most jobs are measured in hundreds of feet rather than panels, and where the corners and brace assemblies decide whether a fence stands for twenty years or sags in five. We build woven wire, field fence, board and high-tensile runs across pasture, creek bottoms and ridge ground, along with privacy and ornamental fence closer to the house. Loudon County Fence is licensed and insured, and we walk the line with you before we quote a number.
On a farm fence the line posts do very little. They hold the wire off the ground and keep spacing even. Everything that actually resists load — the pull of stretched wire, the shove of a cow leaning into it, the weight of a gate swinging all day — lands on the corner, end and brace assemblies. A run of woven wire is only as good as the two assemblies holding its ends.
That is why two quotes for the same 1,800 feet of Corryton pasture fence can differ so much. Line posts are cheap and fast. A properly built H-brace is not: it means a larger diameter post set deeper, a horizontal brace rail, a diagonal brace wire twisted to tension, and the same treatment repeated at every corner, every gate, every dead end, and at intervals along a long straight pull. Skip them and the fence does not fail on day one; it fails the third or fourth year, when the corners have walked and the wire has gone slack.
When we price a field fence we count assemblies before we count feet. A square 10-acre block with two gates needs far fewer than a long irregular boundary that turns nine times following a creek and a ridge. Ask anyone quoting your job how many braces are in the number and how they are built. It tells you more about the price than the wire spec does.
There is no single farm fence. The animal, or the absence of one, sets the material.
Plenty of Corryton properties need more than one answer: no-climb around the barn lot, field fence on the back boundary, board along the drive.
Northeast Knox County ground is not uniform. Depth to bedrock across the county ranges from roughly 7 inches on shallow ridge soils to more than 60 inches on deeper soils, and subsoils commonly run 35 to 60 percent clay. On one property we may auger a clean 30-inch hole; a hundred yards uphill we may be drilling rock. That is a real variable in a farm fence price, and it is why we walk the line rather than quote from a map.
Water is the other one. Knoxville averages about 52 inches of rain a year, and every wet-weather draw on your place moves debris. A fence run straight across a drain will eventually dam up and tear out. The fix is a floodgate or a hinged water gap built to give way and be reset, not a rigid panel. Knox County's adopted frost depth is 12 inches, so frost is rarely the governing factor on posts; wind load on tall solid fence and stock pressure on wire fence are. Posts go in ground-contact-rated pressure-treated pine — AWPA use category UC4A for posts, UC3B for rails and pickets. We do not stock cedar.
Corryton is unincorporated. The City of Knoxville Zoning Ordinance — including Article 10 Section 10.3.L, which caps a privacy fence forward of the front building line at 42 inches — is a city rule and does not govern unincorporated county parcels. If someone tells you your farm gate cannot be over 42 inches tall out front, they are quoting the wrong book.
What does apply in the county is Knox County Section 3.20.04, which restricts obstruction to vision in the sight triangle at intersections. A solid panel counts as an obstruction, so a driveway meeting a road at a corner deserves attention. Deed restrictions and any HOA covenants can also apply regardless of zoning. Because rules turn on your specific parcel, confirm your setbacks and any permit question with Knox County before material is ordered.
On a shared boundary, Tennessee's partition fence law (TCA 44-8-201 through 44-8-205) governs division fences between adjoining landowners, including a three-freeholders procedure and a ten-day notice step. It is worth knowing it exists before you split a cost with a neighbor. It is not legal advice from a fence contractor — talk to an attorney about your situation.
| Fence type | Installed range | Where it fits in Corryton |
|---|---|---|
| Chain link | $10–$40 per ft | Barn lots, kennel runs, equipment yards and well houses where containment beats appearance |
| Wood privacy | $14–$50 per ft | The yard immediately around the house, screening a pool or a propane tank from the road |
| Vinyl | $19–$60 per ft | Homeowners on smaller acreage who want a white line along the drive without annual painting |
| Ornamental aluminum | $24–$70 per ft | Front entrances and yard enclosures that need to be seen through rather than hidden behind |
| Farm and field fence | Quoted on site | Pasture, perimeter and cross-fencing — priced from brace count, terrain, rock and water crossings, not from a per-foot average |
Ranges are installed prices and move with height, grade, gate count and access. Farm fence is the one we will not put a number on from a phone call, because the assemblies and the ground drive it.
We will walk the line, count the corners and gates, and give you a written number. Call (865) 988-9935 or request an estimate.
Tennessee 811 requires three working days' notice before excavation. The ticket is valid 15 days and the tolerance zone around a marked line is at least four feet. We place the call, but there is a gap worth understanding on acreage: the free locate covers public utilities only. Private lines are not marked — the water line to the barn, buried electric to a well pump, feeds to outbuildings, irrigation and old field tile. If you know where they run, tell us at the walkthrough. If you do not, private locating is money well spent before an auger finds them.
Bring your survey too, if you have one. Mowing lines, hedgerows and rusted remnants of a previous fence are not boundaries, and a fence built on an assumption is expensive to move.
Loudon County Fence, LLC has been building fence in East Tennessee since 1973, from 5482 Hwy 321 N in Lenoir City. We hold Tennessee Unlimited Contractor License #54371, which you can verify at verify.tn.gov. Tennessee requires a contractor's license at $25,000 and above, and requires it before bidding or negotiating a price; Knox County is one of only nine counties that also require a separate Home Improvement license for residential work from $3,000 to just under $25,000. We serve ten counties: Knox, Loudon, Blount, Anderson, Roane, Monroe, McMinn, Sevier, Rhea and Meigs.
Sources and caveats: price ranges are typical installed figures and are not a quote. Ordinance references are to the City of Knoxville Zoning Ordinance Article 10 Section 10.3.L and Knox County Section 3.20.04; rules vary by parcel and zoning district, so confirm with Knox County before ordering material. Rainfall is the NOAA 1991–2020 normal for Knoxville (TYS). Soil and bedrock depth figures are general county-wide ranges, not a reading of your property. Partition fence law (TCA 44-8-201 to 44-8-205) is described in general terms only and is not legal advice.
