“Good Fences Make Good Neighbors”? Not If You’re Quoting It Wrong

In his 1914 poem Mending Wall, Frost didn’t celebrate fences. He questioned them. His narrator is skeptical, even annoyed, by the annual ritual of rebuilding a wall that serves no real purpose — done only because it’s always been done.
